I created this sculpture for Betsy Erickson, a distinguished prima ballerina of the San Francisco Ballet. This life-size piece is crafted from bronze, a material that allows for both durability and a timeless elegance. The original work, sculpted from Carrara marble, tragically met its demise during the earthquake of '89. By translating this iconic figure into bronze, I aim to capture the grace and strength of ballet, preserving Betsy's legacy and the artistry of her performance in a new medium. This sculpture stands not only as a tribute to a remarkable dancer but also as a reminder of the resilience of art.
This sculpture merges durable bronze with delicate hand-blown glass, creating a striking focal point. The glass heart symbolizes vulnerability and passion, while the jeweled crown adds a regal touch, representing love's value. Inspired by Debbie Harry's "Heart of Glass," it explores love's complexities, reflecting fragility and strength. The interplay of materials echoes themes of hope and heartbreak, inviting contemplation of permanence and transience in relationships.
This boy is made of bronze , like the dog. The boy sits on his custom made bike. He is 4 feet tall .
